The Cabinet of Salvador Allende

On September 4, 1970, more than one million Chilean cast their votes for Salvador Allende, the first Socialist President of Latin America’s oldest democracy. Besides from dealing with the very complicated domestic agenda of Chilean politics, members of Salvador Allende’s cabinet will find themselves at the midst of the Cold War and extreme military tension.

In Y-MUN’19, members of the Allende Cabinet will be trying to resolve extraordinary problems with extraordinary measures to accomplish a bloodless and constitutional path to Socialism in Chile. The Cabinet will be trying to find the precise balance between the world’s superpowers and their ideologies in the face of the constant possibility of military intervention or even a coup d’état.
